Name: Steven Ike Position: Northwest Regional Sales Manager Years with the company: Less than 1
1) What was your childhood like?
Self-employed father, stay-at-home mother who raised my older siblings and I. My parents decided to get out of California in the late 60s and chose the Pacific Northwest to call home; I still live in the house they bought at that time. I spent all my time outside, playing all sports with friends, or on the water in the family boat.
2) Who was a hero to you growing up? Why?
My father was my hero. A self-employed manufacturer’s rep with an unstable income who managed to put 3 kids through major universities.
3) What are your hobbies?
Boating, golf, family, travel
4) How did you end up in metrology? Did you go to school for it?
I come from a land surveying, precision measurement, and machine guidance sales background which uses the same skill sets and principals as metrology. A previous employer had a small metrology department for caliper and micrometer repairs and calibrations which I was intrigued by.
5) How did you come to be at API?
I saw the position online, did some research on API vs the competition, and pursued API’s opportunity over the competitor. I have been more successful in a smaller company setting vs conglomerates, and the direction API is heading, along with their investments in technology, people, and facilities, make it an exciting company to be a part of.
6) What are your roles and responsibilities with API?
Regional Sales Manager for the Pacific Northwest and Western Provinces of Canada for Laser Trackers, CMM Arms, Machine Tool Calibration, and Contract Services.
7) What sets API apart from other metrology companies in your mind?
We are a privately held, family company with a focus on customers rather than stock holders. Also, the fact that API offers more than just Products and Software: Contract Services, Machine Tool Calibration, Scanning, and soon to be others.
8) What API Product or Service are you most excited to tell people about?
All of it. We are the only Metrology company that develops and manufacturers its own products and offers different services on a contract basis. API is more than a Product or Service. We are a collection of experts in different areas of Metrology.
9) What about API’s future excites you?
I can’t let out those secrets, now can I?
10) What does “Nothing Beyond Measure” mean to you?
“Measure” is the core of our business. We create solutions for measuring in a variety of applications, and “Nothing Beyond” means we are in the ongoing development of new ways and applications to measure.
